How is conventional medicine different from Functional medicine?
Many chronic health conditions (auto-immune, skin disorders, gut trouble, mental health difficulties, brain disorders & dementias, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, many cancers, ect…) stem from chronic inflammation going on in our bodies and frequently gut microbiome imbalances and nervous system dyregulation. This inflammation, nervous system dysregulation and microbiome imbalances can come from many different combination of causes. Many people want a quick fix to the symptoms but, if one truly wants to heal the root cause there must be a deeper dive investigation. This is done through an indepth history and functional testing if needed.
Functional medicine is an investigational patient-centered practice rather than a disease-centered practice. It focuses on the body as a whole ecosystem, focusing on lifestyle influences, nervous system regulation, genetics and the environment to determine what is causing chronic condition.

What is functional nutrition?
Functional nutrition is a cornerstone to functional medicine. Food has the power to heal or harm, and the practice of functional nutrition centers around the whole person. It uses food as a natural medicine to help restore balance in the body and brain, correct nutrient deficiencies, heal the gut, and more. Everyone has their own genetic makeup, health history, and lifestyle habits. Your nutrition plan should be personalized to your individual body.
